I have wanted to do a shoot like this since I got a taste of it with Meaghan. So you can imagine how stoked I was when Carrie emailed me about doing a trash the dress session! My excitement grew when she told me she lives on a farm (chickens! horses!) and that there is a nature preserve by her house with a spring and waterfalls. I was a little worried that I would have to convince her to get in the water, but as soon as we got there she said, “should I get in there?” It was very brave of her since it was only about 55 degrees that day and the water was freezing!
Also, I should thank the Girl Scouts for teaching me so long ago what poison ivy looks like; I think this was one of the few things I took away from the Girls Scouts (that and a life-long aversion to door-to-door sales and the ability to sew a sit upon.) At one point I told Carrie, “this will be a great place for you to lie down.” But on closer inspection I said, “I think this may be poison ivy.” She took one look and said, “yep, that’s it!” It could’ve been the worst photo shoot ever, but we managed to avoid all crises and get some beautiful shots.
